SUPPORTING SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH QUALITY AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS
According to the American Institutes for Research "During the past 20 years, the afterschool field has been held accountable in varying ways—first, on the ability to provide safe places for young people to spend time while their parents work; then, on success in helping to improve participants’ academic achievement as a supplement to the school day. Today, measuring success in afterschool programs is more nuanced and has been influenced by an increased recognition that the social and emotional competencies youth develop while in afterschool programs are also critical to their success in school and life" (Moroney, 2015).

After-school activities also provide opportunities for students to connect with supportive adults and peers (Gullotta, 2015). They are a great venue to help youth develop and apply new skills and personal talents. Research has shown that after-school programs focused on social and emotional development can significantly enhance student self-perceptions, school connectedness, positive social behaviors, school grades, and achievement test scores, while reducing problem behaviors (Durlak et al., 2010).1
The Extended Learning Program operates on the Nashoba Regional School District calendar and is closed when the Nashoba Regional School District is closed for HOLIDAYS AND SNOW DAYS.
Schedules should be confirmed by September 15th. All schedule changes after September 15th must be submitted to the Program Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org for approval, and parents should also submit their schedule change request using the Change of Schedule/Add Day online form. All schedule changes must be approved by the Program Coordinator to be eligible for prorating and must provide a one months notice per schedule change. Schedule changes not approved will be assessed a $25.00 schedule change fee.
The Extended Learning Program has revised its Behavior Policy to reflect the Responsive Classroom model. "The Responsive Classroom is an approach to elementary teaching that emphasizes social, emotional, and academic growth in a strong and safe school community. The approach consists of classroom and school wide practices for deliberately helping children build academic and social-emotional competencies."2
The five most important skills in the Responsive Classroom model include: Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self Respect....C.A.R.E.S.. These five skills are reinforced throughout the morning and afternoon in every activity our students enjoy. Additional information can be found on the Responsive Classroom website.
The Extended Learning Program supports a safe environment for all students. Students who cannot maintain personal and social boundaries and jeopardize the safety of other students will be temporarily suspended from the program for a time period determined by the Program Coordinator. Students who continuously jeopardize student safety may be suspended from the program by the Program Coordinator.
NOTE: All Extended Learning Program students must be completely toilet proficient to attend.
The ten month tuition is divided by ten monthly payments due by the 28th of each month. All accounts are assessed a non-refundable $35.00 registration fee. Monthly payments should be made one month in advance. We offer a 10% sibling discount and a 15% discount for all additional siblings. Payments that are received after the 28th of the month will be assessed a $20.00 late fee. Only paid tuitions will be guaranteed continued space in the program. Monthly payments are expected by the 28th of the month. Accounts that are overdue by more than one month will result in a temporary suspension from the Extended Learning Program until the account is cleared by the finance department.
The suggested pickup time is 5:45 P.M. After 5:45 P.M., the pickup time is promptly at 6:00 P.M. All accounts will be charged $1.00 for each minute after 6:00 P.M. Excessive lateness (more than four late pickups) will result in termination from the program.
If your child is going to be picked up by someone other than a parent the following steps must be followed:
1) an email must be sent to your Site Coordinator stating the person's name and permission for him/her to pick up your child
2) this individual will also be required to show a valid ID upon pickup
3) all listed pickup individuals must be at least 18 years of age.
To ensure the safety of our children there will be no exceptions to this protocol.
