In February, Nashoba Regional School District was honored to announce its selection as one of only 15 districts across Massachusetts to receive the Partnership for Reading Success in Massachusetts (PRISM I) Grant, as part of the Commonwealth’s Literacy Launch Initiative.
This month, the Healey-Driscoll Administration announced $9 million in continuation grants for those original fifteen districts, with $336,390 awarded to Nashoba Regional School District. The funding will further support Nashoba’s efforts to implement high-quality, evidence-based reading instruction through the adoption of strong literacy materials, technical support, coaching, and professional development for educators.
The Literacy Launch: Reading Success from Age 3 through Grade 3 is a multiyear statewide initiative designed to help districts transition to evidence-based early literacy programs. Its goal is to ensure that all students develop the foundational reading and writing skills needed for academic success and lifelong learning.
Laura Friend, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, emphasized the importance of this work:
“We are thrilled to be part of the PRISM I partnership with DESE. This opportunity allows us to build on the great work already happening in our classrooms and to strengthen early literacy, ensuring that each and every child has the foundation to become a competent and confident reader and learner.”
This announcement follows the launch of the state’s first Literacy Launch Institute in August, which provided free, in-person training and professional development for educators across Massachusetts, including eight Nashoba educators.
Nashoba is proud to continue this important work and to strengthen its commitment to providing every child with the tools to become a confident, successful reader.
